Some Videos stop playing...but not all

Jun 07, 2023

Hi,

I've recently created a set of 13 videos all with the same controls and in the same format in Storyline and scormed them all in the same way. When they've been uploaded to our LMS some of the videos stop part way through and won't progress, but some work fine. What could be the issue?

Thanks

Liz

Hi Liz,

Happy to help!

For LMS related issues, we recommend testing how your course behaves in a different LMS to see if the behavior you're experiencing is LMS specific. One LMS that you can use for this is SCORM Cloud, and this article explains how to test your course there:

If the issue only happens when the course is uploaded to your LMS, you can try enabling the LMS debug log for your course to see exactly what happens right before the issue occurs. You can then share this information with your LMS support team.

If you're able to replicate the behavior in SCORM Cloud, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

Hi Liz,

Good call on opening a support case! Your case is in good hands with our support team, so please be on the lookout for an email from them.

Hi Storm,

It looks like you may be experiencing a different issue since your videos are embedded. Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or privately through a case so we can publish it and test to see what's causing the videos to stop playing? We'll delete it when we're done.

I've been having the same issue for months now, and reported it a few times. The only thing that I've been able to notice is that if you click on the video on the slide in the storyline file, then click on Options, if the Compression tab is grayed out, then that video will not play.

The response I get usually is to make sure that I'm working on my hard drive and not on a server. Any time I'm working with large files or videos I always move everything to my hard drive, so I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with it.

This happens on the Review 360 website, as well as the LMS, but the videos always load fine when previewing in Storyline.

The only thing I've been able to do to resolve these issues (and they don't always work the first time) is to republish the video in Adobe Premiere as a new .mp4. The weird thing is these videos were either made by me or my marketing department in Adobe Premiere as well, but republishing it will can sometimes fix it.

The other option that usually works is to reset to standard optimization for video quality. I've had issues with Adaptive streaming quality as well.

I've had the most success by lowering the quality down to 5.
