Storyline 2 - bookmarking is not working

Oct 09, 2014

Hi there. I have downloaded the trial of Storyline 2 just to ensure it works with our LMS before purchasing it, and while it does record completions into our LMS, it is not bookmarking.

I have tried "Prompt to resume" and "Always resume" with and without the "When running in LMS, ignore Flash cookie" option and am always taken back to the beginning of the course when I return with no prompt to resume. I also tried publishing to HTML and that did not work as well, so I don't think it's an LMS issue. Also, bookmarking works correctly with Storyline 1 in our LMS.

Any suggestions? My organization was going to upgrade, but if we can't get bookmarking to work, we may have to hold off on that.

Our LMS is Plateau and we are publishing to AICC.

Hi Jeannie,

You mentioned it's not on your LMS yet, so I'm assuming you published for web and are accessing it that way? If you've published for LMS and have placed in a web environment, that could account for the odd behavior. You mentioned Safari and the mobile app -are you using the articulate Mobile player or another app to access your course?

You mentioned bookmarking, and I assume you mean the "prompt to resume" ? Are you seeing the prompt or it's just always bringing you back to the start of the course?

I’m returning to the very first page in the program when using on an iPad or android tablet. It did bookmark on the LMS (however, our LMS is not set up for mobile-ready…we’re getting an upgrade in September which will alleviate that. We were told by our technology team that we need to have the setting marked for HTML5 output due to the migration.)

Here are my settings:

Hi Jeannie,

First, when replying via email your signature is included here so you're welcome to edit the post to remove that information if you wish.

Next, you mentioned your LMS isn't mobile ready - but were you testing the HTML5 output from the LMS? That would allow you to view it in Safari on a iOS tablet or Chrome on an Android.

When you're testing the mobile output - where are you testing it from if not in your LMS? You could use a site such as SCORM Cloud which is an industry standard for LMS content. If you're testing on a web server, you'll need to publish for Web vs. publishing for Mobile.  Here are a few sample or testing web servers that you're welcome to use.

Hi I am having trouble with bookmarking in my Storyline 2 course. I have published it in LMS format and am trialing it in the SCORM cloud.  The bookmarking seems to be working inconsistently.  I went into Player under other, selected prompt when resume.  It does so but inconsistently.  The problem does not always occur in the same place.  I have checked it out in published CD format and have no problems with the bookmarking there. It all works fine and consistently.  Any ideas about what to do?

Hi Gwyneth,

Does the prompt appear inconsistently or you're brought back to the correct spot inconsistently? You may be running into the data limit detailed here. Also, can you confirm that you're using the latest update of Storyline, update 6?  If you'd like to tell us a bit more about the issue you're running into and share a copy of the .story file we're happy to take a look.

Hi Ashley,

The prompt is working consistently in that when it appears one is brought back to the correct spot.  I think you are correct in identifying running into the data limit.  I did some further sleuthing on the Web and came to the same conclusion. I realized I published in SCORM 2004 2nd Edition.  I have republished in the 4th edition and now all  seems to be working well.  I see from the link you sent the 3rd and 4th edition support larger data limits.  I’m not sure if I have update 6 as I have no control over updates in our IT system.  The software was loaded onto my computer 2 months ago.

Thanks for the suggestions and assistance it is reassuring being a real newby at this. All seems good on this end now.

Hello, I am having an odd issue where the bookmarking function "Prompt to resume" isn't working in my course. Everything is selected correctly, and when published the prompt comes up, but does not allow you to select the "Yes" option, only no, thus forcing the user to restart the course.  Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hello

I am also experiencing a problem with the prompt to resume functionality not going back to the page where I left the eLearning.  It is consistently going back to the same page in a section much earlier which is a problem as we have locked down the menu and users would have to redo it all again.
I started changing some of the slide properties - when revisiting 'resume saved state' and 'reset to initial state' to 'automatically decide' to see if this helped. It just changed the slide that I kept being sent back to.  It's a large file so I wonder is there a limit to the size?
I have uploaded to SCORM cloud and found that it is doing exactly the same thing there.  I have updated the Storyline 2 to Update 6.  I am publishing in SCORM 1.2. I am now a bit stuck as I don't know how I can get the bookmarking working correctly.  Can anyone help?
thanks Amanda

Hi Amanda!

I took a look at the support case that Zuri shared above and it seemed to be related to the actual file and her support engineer was able to correct.

Did you check out the data limit information that Ashley shared above here.

You can share your .story file here with our support team as well if you would like them to take a look.
