Storyline 3 Publish to Word not functioning publishes empty folder

Jun 30, 2020

I have the latest update installed for Storyline 3, and suddenly when I publish to word (which is often needed for legal) it says it published successfully, but will not zip or open- and the folder is empty. I tried with 3 different courses, same result. I published to Word successfully many times, a few just before installing this update.

Is there a fix for this? Thanks

Hi Elizabeth,

Thank you for reaching out! I am sorry to hear about the troubles publishing to Word.

A few questions as we figure out the best next steps:

  • Have you tried exporting the translation to Word? This will help us understand if it's a publishing error or a communication error between Storyline and Word.
  • Does the same error occur when publishing a new file to Word?
  • Lastly, which version of Storyline 3 are you using?

Looking forward to hearing more and please let us know if you have any questions!

I am having the same issue. I've been able to publish to Word previously.  I tried on several projects i'm currently working on.  I have Update 10: 3.10.22406.0.

Edit:

My teammate was able to Export to Word because she didn't update to the current Storyline 3 version yet.

I have also tried Exporting  Translation to Word. Still a blank folder.

Hi Cheryl,

Thank you for letting us know!

Since this functionality was working previously, could I have you try repairing Storyline 3 to see if that clears up this snag? This guide will help walk you through those steps:

If the repair doesn't seem to help, could I have you try going through steps outlined in this guide as well:

Please keep us posted on this and let us know if you have any questions!

Hello Cheryl and Elizabeth,

I appreciate you both trying those initial troubleshooting steps, and I'm sorry to hear they didn't help! Here are a few quick ideas before we dig any deeper:

  • Is the file name long, or does it include special characters, accents, or symbols? This Microsoft article covers more about naming conventions. If so, let's shorten the file name or remove any special characters to see if that helps.
  • Is the file saved on a local hard drive? Publishing to a shared drive can cause oddities like this, so I always like to rule that out.

If the empty folder remains, let's get you connected with our Support team. They'll troubleshoot further and guide you through the next step!
