Troubleshooting Configuration.js

Jun 18, 2018

Hello.

I am using Moodle 2.5.9. I created a Course in Storyline 2 and I need to turn off Review Mode when the Learner revisits an "in progress" SCORM activity.

I found this thread from 4 years ago: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/storyline-and-moodle-review-mode#reply-527099

This is the solution I was looking for, so I tried it, editing in Notepad on a PC.

However when I go to launch the SCORM package (in a new window) I get a blank window, nothing loads. When I revert back to the original file, it works fine.

I tried it in SCORM Cloud and it works fine; which leads me to believe it's a moodle issue with some user error thrown in for good measure. I've included the Configuration file.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any fixes or things I should look out for?

Thanks.

wow.. 2.5.9 - you probably need to stop trying to disable review mode and find a way to upgrade your site to a recent supported release. (and implement some form of regular process to make sure you update your site regularly.)

You could be running into a number of known issues with Moodle 2.5 that have been fixed in newer versions, but you may also want to try setting the Moodle setting "force new attempt" to "yes"

review mode appears when the previous attempt has been flagged as complete/failed or passed. Force new attempt= yes will generate a new attempt rather than taking you into review mode.

Thanks Marsden. I am well aware that we are out of date, trust me. It is out of my control at this time. So it seems you are suggesting it is due to the moodle version number.

To address your other suggestions:

1. I have set "force new attempt" to "no," because it would jump right to review mode otherwise. With this setting the Learner gets an option.

2. As to the trigger for review mode, I have my settings in moodle that the SCORM activity is completed when they:

  • receive a grade,
  • a minimum score of 80
  • and must be passed (which is set to 80 in storyline and moodle), see attachment.

If I exit the activity mid way through and come back to complete it, it goes to review mode and my grade only reflects what has been completed. I have to click the "start new attempt button" for my new attempt's scores to be recorded.

I guess it boils down to: I am not sure what is triggering moodle to see this attempt as completed and therefore should start in review mode.

It may be Moodle issues that have been fixed, I wonder if you had an error when saving the file, have you tried using an editor like Atom? Maybe that the filetype is getting appended as text.

I have edited setting these settings in other moodle instals and not had any issues, so wonder if it is user error,.

Do you have the published course set to passed/failed? If it sends a failed which is likely if you exit part way through, failed in most LMSs forces review mode, not sure how Moodle deals with this.
