Using a Master Results Slide w/ branching quizzes

Jan 04, 2016

Wondering how to configure a master results slide when using branching quizzes.

I have a course that branches into two sections depending on the user's choice.  Users will navigate then to the quiz that corresponds to the branch they viewed.

How do I configure a master slide to report to the LMS and show the correct percentage for the quiz that the user took?

Okay... I've read the discussion on the link you provided, as well as this link
https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/quiz-results-in-branching-storyline-scenes

Here's a bit more information about what I'm trying to accomplish.

  • I wasn't going to have the final Results Slide visible to the user(s).  So navigation doesn't have to direct there.
  • The final Results slide, however, does report to the LMS, which will show an artificial percentage score for the course.

So, I'm wondering how to set up that Results slide to report the users actual scores.

Can I set up a conditional statement e.g. to show text only If %Results.ScorePercent%% > 0

that will report to the LMS?

Sending a sample file w/ layout on this... for the sake of this example, I've made the questions all alike...but in reality, they are different for each 'branch' of the quiz.  There are different questions depending upon the scenario the user questions in the 'real' quiz.

They don't do both branches, so will only complete half of the total questions.
Even though they would get all questions in their half correct 100% score, the LMS will only report 50% ...

Wondering how I can do this so that the LMS reporting will more accurately reflect their score.

Hi, Mary Beth -- Thanks again for your patience while I tested your file! As you can see here when you click on the link to the published output on SCORM Cloud, I am finding the same result.

At the beginning of the course, I chose the "On-Premises Solution ESM Authentication" option and progressed through the course until I reached the end and achieved a 100% score.

However, when I close out of the module, it looks as though I have only achieved 50%. You may find this article on How to Troubleshoot Your LMS via the SCORM Cloud to be helpful, and in the meantime, I am going to reach out to our support staff to see if they have any additional suggestions. You will be hearing from a member of that team shortly via email.

1. The link would not allow me in to view the exercise in SCORM Cloud

2. Yes, the results slide shows the results correctly; however, when it is reported through the LMS, because the user only took ½ of the questions (due to branching) it reports as 50% in the LMS.
THAT is the issue.

Hi, Mary Beth -- Thanks for your reply and when you open the SCORM Cloud link, you would still need to enter your email address, then first and last name to be able to view the content. And as I mentioned that is may be beneficial for our Support Engineers to take a look as well, I went ahead and set you up in case #00737846, so you should have received a confirmation email a few minutes ago. If not, please check your SPAM folder. :)

Also, I wanted to note, when you reply via email, your signature details are displayed publicly, so you are welcome to use the EDIT button beneath your post to remove that info if you wish.

Thanks for reaching out, Marcel!

I want to gather a couple more clues to help point you in the right direction:

  • Are you experiencing an issue when using a result slide with a branching quiz?
  • Have you tried testing your course in a different LMS environment to see if you experience the same results? Troubleshoot your course in SCORM Cloud.

It would be helpful if our support engineers could look at what you have going on in your project and better understand what you want to achieve. Could I have you share your file in a support case as well as the responses to my questions above?

We'll reach out shortly after with an update!
