Volume Slider not working with videos

Jul 11, 2018

We recently noticed that with the last Articulate 360 update the Volume slider is not working when a video is on the slide.

It works fine with a normal audio file; you can adjust the volume up and down. When a video is on the slide, the volume slider doesn't adjust the audio until you go to the next slide where the volume is set to where you left it on the previous slide.

It worked fine in the previous version.

Hi Ross,

I don't have an ETA for Storyline 3's next update - but as soon as we know more we'll share details.

If you need to publish these files and get them out the door ASAP - you could start a trial of Articulate 360 here and publish those from Storyline 360. Keep in mind that there are other features which are specific to Storyline 360 (i.e, modern player), so if you add those the .story won't be able to open in Storyline 3.

I can sympathize. 360 is always going to be the first to get updates. Problem is, those updates lately rarely make it to Storyline 3. There are numerous issues that have yet to be fixed. I feel like they're just giving up on Storyline 3 and trying to push people more towards their subscription service with 360. It may be a better business strategy, however customer loyalty and satisfaction is taking a big hit.

One of the benefits of an Articulate 360 subscription is that you get continuous updates when new features are available.

There are some features that are exclusive to Storyline 360 and those are outlined here.

Storyline 3 does get the same bug fixes included in Storyline 360. The next update of Storyline 3 will include fixes from Storyline 360 Update 19 to present.

I do not see any indication that the volume slider will be fixed based off of the release notes for this update.

I understand that you are trying to convince your customers that 360 is the latest and greatest Articulate product, but we had already purchased numerous Storyline 3 licenses when 360 came out and cannot afford to pay a yearly subscription fee in comparison to a one-time purchase fee.

Storyline 360 doesn't really offer any additional functionality that Storyline 3 cannot accomplish, but it is clear now that any bug fixes and updates to Storyline 3 are basically not on the radar of the Articulate team since 360 came out, which is severely disappointing. As a Storyline 3 customer, I do not feel valued since the release of 360.

I have been asking about a fix for the volume slider for months now and no one can tell me when it is going to be fixed in Storyline 3. Please advise.

Well said Taylor. I couldn't agree more. This and other bug fixes in Storyline 3 seem to have been placed on the back-burner and are no longer a priority. Having these issues persist for several months and sometimes up to a year is unacceptable; especially when they have been resolved already in 360. Just my personal opinion here, but if Articulate is indeed trying to push their customers towards a subscription-based service, they should be more transparent about this and inform current Storyline customers of this new business strategy. As a Storyline 3 customer, I kind of feel like the forgotten child, especially when I receive emails promoting 360 and all its amazing features, updates and bug fixes. It's become quite clear that 360 has become their new favorite child, with Storyline 3 becoming increasingly neglected. My sense of value  as a Storyline 3 customer has definitely decreased since the release of 360 as well. It's a shame.

Hi Taylor and Ross,

I understand that it's frustrating to wait for updates and that's not our intention.

Since Storyline 360 is subscription-based, it has a more agile production cycle and we are able to deploy fixes there almost immediately. While Storyline 3 is updated less frequently, it does receive all of the same bug fixes you'll find in Storyline 360.

Storyline 3 was built from Storyline 360 build 3.4.10364.0 and has received a number of updates for fixes and a few features. You'll find the Storyline 3 Version history and release notes here.

The volume slider fix available in Articulate 360 will be included in the next update of Storyline 3. The release date is still to be determined as we work to incorporate other fixes, but we're on target for Q1.

As soon as it's ready, we'll update all the forum discussions that impact customers so that you'll know right away.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, or if there is anything else I can do to help.

With all due respect, perpetual vs subscription licensing has absolutely no bearing on a development team's ability to release updates. It's just a question of priorities. If you want to kill off your perpetual licenses, that's your prerogative. Articulate needs to clearly articulate it's product roadmap so that your users can make informed decisions.

But don't string people along - you're just setting your customers up for failure.
