Which file to load for lms

Nov 19, 2014

Hello,

I currently using the trial version of Storyline 2 to test and determine if this product is right for us to switch to from our current software.

We currently create large courses so 1 storyline project to us is more of a lesson instead of a course. We currently take all our lessons and combine them into one scorm package and upload that to the lms. Our lms comes with a course creator that allows us to package multiple sco's into one package.

To do this though I need to tell the course creator which is the initial file to load. When I publish my storyline project it gives me lots of files, so if anyone can direct me to the right one that would be appreciated.

I was assuming it was one of the index_lms files, and I chose index_lms_html5 file because users of PC, MAC, and tablets (android and iPad) would be accessing our courses so this would avoid the flash issue with iPad.

When I did this though and launched the lesson it opened fine and the player with the menu on the left showed up but where the content was it just had a loading symbol.

Side Note:

Does articulate have something similar to our course creator so that multiple storyline projects could be combined into one scorm package to upload to an lms?

I thought that for how impressive this software was and all of it's options that it would be easy for them to create something like this to help developers build courses.

Hi Gary,

Typically, you'll want to zip the entire contents of the published output folder and load that up to your LMS as detailed here.   If your LMS requires that you identify a single launch file once you've uploaded your content, the file to point to is index_lms.html.

We don't support tracking multiple SCOs in the same course, although there are some unsupported methods detailed here.

Hi Gary! No confusion intended :)

That would be dependent on your LMS requirements for publishing.

Ashley's statement is:  If your LMS requires that you identify a single launch file once you've uploaded your content, the file to point to is index_lms.html.

The point of the article I shared was for you to understand how the content will display, as that's what I understood your question to be, and this applies to both as you can see in the linked article above.

Yes, I zip the file and for rise I tried choosing either index.html or story.html, for storyline I choose index.html.

The courses are loading but they are not exiting, not logging score. I noticed the old courses that work, loaded in new windows and would refresh upon exit and log. These new ones aren’t opening in a new window / refreshing.

Hi Scott

this comment from staff - is this the file you've tried to point to?

If your LMS requires that you identify a single launch file once you've uploaded your content, the file to point to is index_lms.html

Have you tried uploading to Scormcloud and see if it works there? If it does, then you may need to contact your LMS administrator (or vendor) and check with them

When I tried the index_lms.html I received the same error that others on this site have gotten. The only way the course loads without error is by pointing to story.html, but then it won't log the score. I still don't know why the same file when previously uploaded would launch in a new window, which leads me to believe I'm choosing the wrong file still.
