I was wondering what are the best practices or ways to review & update online training materials/content especially when your in house SMEs are quite busy. Do you think reviewing every 2 to 3 years is a good practice? How do we get the SME to review the content every 2/3 years?
I would appreciate with useful tips, information and options.
Hi, Noori: You can set a suggested update schedule, but the reality (at least in the U.S.) is that in three years it's likely that both the instructional designer and SME will have moved on to other positions/companies. That's a long time horizon.
Thanks for your response. I definitely agree that ID and SME will have moved on different roles and that's a tricky situation. We do have a similar situation. What do you suggest in such circumstances? Do you think 3 years is a long period for reviewing or updating the online content?
Different courses content updating frequency need varies. some of them may change fast and some may not. I think setting a frequency track for updating and the date is more realistic. Normally the owner or SMEs of the content will better know how the frequency of updating should be. Set the frequency and checking date right after a course is launched. The image below shows how we can control and track for various courses.
