Vancouver User Group

May 07, 2015

We've had a couple of meetings and I'm the keeper of the emails and lists, but would rather use a collaborative space. If you want to be part of our group, you can reply to this thread (or email me directly if you want: holly at sparkandco dot ca).

A group of us met this week and we shared some resources that I'd like to put up here.

I've proposed that we meet again the week of July 20th.

And here's some of the topics we wanted to tackle that I captured in our first session:

  • Variables
  • Branching
  • Optimizing development process
  • Quicker prototyping and editing
  • Efficiencies with asset management
  • Easy ways to duplicate repetitive processes
  • How to make more engaging evaluations/surveys
  • Any ways to incorporate more interactive feedback beyond surveys/quizzes
  • I’d love more support on graphic design or visual design
  • Love to see examples – variables
  • Functionality – how to incorporate/build using other complementary technologies.
  • Building engaging interactions
  • Extending storyline with javascript
  • Graphic design
  • I need some inspiration and could use some collaboration
  • printing certificates

It was nice to meet everyone. Thank you Holly for organizing the meeting and Mikki for providing a location.

I have one other tip to add.  If your file keeps crashing when you do copy and paste, or if you use the duplicate object feature, try to replace your master slides.  This has eliminated my problems.  I hope it works for you too.    Alice

I’m so upset that I missed the last meet-up. I was so eager to attend an event, I travelled to Victoria for their last meeting. Maybe it’s the Universe telling me I should move to the Island! Anyway, I will be at the next for sure.

Also, anyone in the community should feel free to email me at kima_jones@hotmail.com

Hey all - Wednesday July 22nd works best for me, but I need to be done by 7 pm as I'm picking someone up at the airport at 8.

Here's what I propose: a "design jam" - everyone should do a twist of the most recent ELH Challenge and prepare a sample/demo of your favorite Vancouver/area summer activity and be prepared to display it and tell us what you did for your example. Hopefully this gives you something that you could use as a portfolio piece and get a chance to see how others approach a similar subject for some design ideas.

Mikki - let us know if Douglas College is available and if not, we'll need a meeting space!

Look forward to seeing you next month.

Sounds like a fantastic idea Holly!

Unfortunately I am on my vacation that week. What a pity that I’ll miss it! I’ll be at the next one for sure.

It would be cool if someone takes a few snaps just to share with the group?

Oh and for the rest of the group, feel free to connect with me on twitter @sueprendo or linkedIn (search for Susann Prenderville).

I’m also open for coffees and chats too!

Thanks again!

Sue

Hi all - our next meeting is going to be on Tuesday, November 3rd at Douglas College from 4:30-6:30. Classroom # 3410 at the NW campus.

I suggest that we each prepare something for this challenge to share and talk through: https://community.articulate.com/articles/grabbing-attention-motivating-learners-elearning. Feel free to work solo, in pairs/groups/use other projects that you've done before, etc.

Look forward to seeing you then!

Holly
