(Kind of urgent) How do I make an icon animate across a map in multiple slides?
Hi everyone,
I actually have two questions. I will start with the easier one first.
Question 1
In a fade-in from the right animation, is there a way to adjust how far to the right the object starts? I don't want it to animate from off the right side of the slide. I only want it to start a few pixels to the right.
Question 2
How do I animate the red shirt character below across 13 slides? I want it to follow each button from 1 to 13. I realize I should use the Motion Path. But what's the smartest way to use the motion path across slides? I have always found the motion path to be challenging.
Thank you all for your help! :)

Question 1
There is not. All of those "From" animation effect options begin from outside the screen and all of the "To" ones go outside it as well. When I want this effect quickly, I combine a Fade entrance animation (no Effect Options) and add a Motion Path with the same duration. If setup right, the effect is that the object translates as it fades in. The distance and Path Options of the motion path determine the look.
If you're comfortable with JavaScript, the API allows you to either animate with GSAP, CSS, or some simple opacity and motion scripting with Storyline's JavaScript API. That would let you get real granular with it.
Question 2
The easy way to use the motion path across slides it to have multiple motion paths. When a slide starts, the character follows the motion path to the next node, assuming by animated you mean translating from node to node. If you're fine with him jumping to each node, he could be the thumb of a slider controlled by a variable that increases as each slide is seen. If the learners can go backward, the slider would also make it easy to position the character for those retroactive nodes too without getting into a bunch of duplicate-but-backward triggers.

See a way to answer question 1 without JavaScript in my earlier reply. 😄

Answer 1: If you want that type of animation to start within the slide area, put the object within a scrolling panel. For details, see the info layer on the Animations slide in this Storyline Glossary.
Answer 2: It depends.
How does the user jump from one slide to another? What happens on each slide? Is that background always visible?
For example, you could keep that office layout on just one slide, and show the additional content on layers. Or have a separate slide for each station. Those could be shown by jumping to the slide or via a lightbox.
If you do repeat that layout on multiple slides, put the character in the appropriate starting position on each slide. Then a slide only needs the motion path that moves the character to the next position.
By the way, I suggest you move the numbers so they're closer to the line that the character follows. The way it's set up now, it looks like the character will move from 1 to 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 13.
