Opening hyperlinks

Hi,

I want to open an external internetsite from within Rise or Storyline. The problem is that the site opens an new tab next to the tab from the LMS. The elearningmodule is open isn an separate window.

What happens:

  • The learner clicks on the hyperlink within the elearningmodule. The elearningmodule is shown in a separate window. 
  • A separate tab opens in Edge next to the tab of the LMS. Edge, with the two tabs, is on top of the  elearningmodule window.
  • When the learner wants to return to the elearningmodule it is not enough to close the tab. The changes are that the learner closes Edge. So, also the LMS tab is closed. There is no connection anymore between the elearningmodule and the LMS.
  • The learner sees the elearningmodule and continues learning. BUT there is nog track-and-trace anymore because the LMS is closed.

Has anyone any experience in how to overcome this?

    Thanks for reaching out!

    A combination of browser and LMS settings controls the behavior you described. In SCORM Cloud, for example, there's a section where you can define the course's launch and open behavior. 

    I recommend working with your IT team to check how your browser opens hyperlinks and working with your LMS team so they can review how your LMS opens new tabs and links.
