Try Again issue with numeric entry
Hi All. I have a project where the user is supposed to input three numbers and then add them together at the end for a total of $3,600. I have two problems. The first is really a question. Is there a way the user can enter $ or a comma in their answer? Or would I use a text entry box instead? The second is that it is a freeform slide, and I would like the user to be able to have 2 attempts. I have only been able to have the user to go either to the incorrect slide or the correct slide. I hope this makes sense. Thanks in advance!

Hi April,
In Form view of the question you can tell Storyline what the acceptable answers are: 3600, $3600, 3,600 $3,600. You don't need to add conditions to your Submit button either - you just need to Submit the interaction, and then because your attempts are set at "2", Storyline will automatically show the Try again layer the first time they get it wrong, then the Incorrect layer the second time they get it wrong. I made some edits to your file and attached it here! Hope that helps!

Hi Elizabeth,
I appreciate the time you took with my project. I have another question. I went to form view and saw the acceptable answers box. I still can't get it to work. Am I supposed to pick a submit button or something? Thanks!

I think I misunderstood your question! Sorry about that. Since you used the Text Entry convert to freeform, Storyline isn't going to let the user type in the $ or the , symbols. They can type in letters or numbers but that's it!
For a little more flexibility, I rebuilt the slide from a Graded question of "Fill in the Blank", which follows a similar structure but allows for those other symbols. Updated file attached here again. It did make duplicates of your variables since I copied and pasted onto slide 1.2, "fill in the blank", but I updated the variable references so everything should display correctly. Let me know if I am still missing something!

I just checked out your file. I wasn't able to put the $ for the first three boxes. Do I need to change them to text entry instead?

I just realized that you have no idea what the excess amounts are!
The first blank should be 400.
The second blank should be $2,000.
The third blank should be $1,200.
Would using text entry boxes instead for these boxes work since they don't actually calculate anything?

I was only thinking of the final answer! But you are right -- Using text entry instead of numeric entry for those would work! And then the final answer, Line 15(a) should be a fill in the blank style question.

Thanks! I really appreciate it!
