Articulate Storyline 2 bugging in the LMS

Nov 16, 2016

We went live with our new LMS yesterday (SumTotal-Maestro) and today we are having numerous employees complaining of not being able to complete their post-test on an annual compliance training we offer. They are not having any issues within the ungraded section test but once they click on the post-test it either freezes, gives them unlimited responses without moving to the next question, or the slide bugs out like in the picture below. We are trying to figure out if this is an issue with the test itself or an issue within our LMS. It works correctly on my personal computer, but when I tried it on my bosses computer it froze.

I built it by manually entering questions/answers in a question bank and the post-test is supposed to randomly draw 10 questions from the question bank.

I'd suggest you consider running your course through SCORM Cloud and see if things behave the same... LMS systems have their own "qwirks"

If possible you might consider sharing your .story file via ADD ATTACHMENT so the community might help you troubleshoot things faster if the behavior reproduces. Or a small sampling of the .story file

Hi Lindsey,

To back up Brian's point about the LMS environment, you could also test out at SCORM Cloud as it's an industry standard for LMS testing and this article will walk you through those steps.

If the behavior persists there as well, we'll want to take a look at the .story file in question and if you're unable to share here you can always reach out to our Support Engineers here.

Hi Lindsey:

I'm speculating a bit here, but my first guess at this problem MIGHT be that the VERSION of SCORM you published your Storyline content to in creating your LMS package is the WRONG version or type setting.

For example, some newer LMS systems might require you to publish to the SCORM 2004 model instead of the older SCORM 1.2 one you may have used in the past with your previous LMS.

I would suggest following-up with your LMS Administrator and clear up what these publishing settings for your Storyline files need to be before importing them into your new LMS as a course offering.

PS: Bear in mind that despite your version of SCORM Model, there are typically also multiple settings (usually 4) that control how your Quiz is tracked and completed, so you should take some time and investigate/test your course(s) to ensure they operate and mark complete as expected before publishing and uploading to your LMS for use by your learners.

Otherwise, they may complete their course and quiz in their browser(s), but not necessarily get marked as complete within the LMS system you've upgraded to.
