Audio clips (narrations) are playing on the wrong slide(s)

Nov 01, 2012

I've been working with this project for a while, now all of a sudden my narrations are mixed up on several slides.  They are correct in the timeline but I guess Storyline is disregarding the timeline...

I have a similar problem and it seems to come down 3 elements. I have a MP4 video created in Camtasia, a photo and a slide used to select either the video or the photo (decision slide). I have tried three different setups and every time I select the photo, the audio from the video plays. The audio also plays if I select the decision slide from the menu (it does not play if I move through the slides using the normal progression). The different setups I have tried are:

·         Decision slide with a trigger to a layer for the video – separate trigger to jump to a slide for the photo.

·         Decision slide with a trigger to a layer for the photo – separate trigger to jump to a slide for the video.

·         Decision slide with triggers to 2 separate slides for the video and photo.

I am using Articulate 360 and Windows 7 Professional. I have also tried this in a new project and the same problem occurs.

Hi Bill and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Thanks for reaching out and describing what you are experiencing.

We've had some recent releases that addressed some issues with videos playing when they should not be.

Curious if you are using the latest update to Storyline 360?  We are currently on Update 18.

If so, and you're still experiencing an issue, please feel free to share the .story file so that we can take a look.

We'd be glad to help you out.

Hi Leslie,

The version is 3.17.16117.0. I will have to put an IT ticket in to update my computer as it is locked down and I do not have the rights to update. I will recheck after I am updated and get back to you if I still have a problem.

Thanks for the quick response.

Regards,

Hi everyone. If you're experiencing this issue, the ONLY reliable solution is to import your entire project into a new file. Trust me on this. I've spent hours with this error.

No, reloading the audio file will not fix it.

No, playing the audio a bit in the timeline editor and saving it will not *always* fix it (I've noticed this sometimes fixes the slide in question but breaks another slide elsewhere, which is hard to detect if you have a course with ~250-300 slides).

Luckily, the import feature will carry over all of your content, triggers, and slide settings. All you will need to do is A) set your player size to match your old file, B) File > Import > SL> Choose your file, and C) re-adjust your player settings to match the old file.

P.S. It's disappointing that this issue has persisted for nearly 6 years without an update patch from the SL development team...

Hi there, Erik.  I'd be happy to work closely with you to find out why your audio is not playing where it should.  Let me grab the following information from you:

  • Can you confirm what version of Storyline you’re using?  Go to Help > About Storyline.  I can let you know if we've released an update for your version of Storyline that has addressed incorrect audio.
  • Are you working from and saving to your local C: drive?  Using network/shared drives contributed to this issue for some of the people in this discussion.
  • Can you share your .story file?  That way, I can test your setup and see if we need to take action on a new bug.  Just attach it here in the thread, or send it to me privately.

Thanks for reaching out!

I too am experiencing this issue, but now the old fix of opening the audio file, playing a few seconds, closing and saving is not working- even when I deleted the wrong audio track from the project file-- SL is still playing it. I checked the media library and it says that the file is only playing on one slide, and marks the correct one, but almost all the audio tracks are scrambled when I preview or publish... I'm using the most current version/update of SL360. Have tried publishing both Flash and HTML5 and the same thing is happening. The first few slides play fine, and then all of sudden it just randomly starts playing the wrong tracks. What gives?

EDIT: I tried turning off the Optimize Audio option in publishing settings and that seems to have fixed the problem! But it would be nice if we could still optimize audio without SL mixing up audio tracks...

Has anyone been able to figure out a solution to this? I cannot for the life of me get 3 of 20 audio files to play on the correct screens. And one of the screens is playing audio that is not even in the file... Unfortunately I am unable to send the file to you to look at. Any thoughts? I may just end up rebuilding the whole thing. :(

Hi Lisa,

I'm sorry to hear you're running into this as well. Have you tried importing your project into a new file, as mentioned above? You can do this by opening a blank Storyline file, go to File->Import->Storyline.

Hopefully this helps, but if you need some additional help, our support engineers would be happy to sign an NDA to lend you a hand in troubleshooting!

Many thanks for posting your workarounds/solutions Kenneth and Lisa.
I encountered a similar issue today, in latest update of SL3, but for me the audio is OK in the timeline, but when I open it to edit from there, it plays the audio from a different slide, so I cannot make any edits as it opens the wrong file when I try!

Tried Kenneths first and though the audio seems to play correctly, lots of things appear lost in the import.
Thankfully it seems Lisas suggestion, has worked!

I hope this helps anyone having the same issues!

Hello Nodin!

Thank you for sharing your project! I've published the course for Review 360, and I hear the correct audio on each of the slides. Are you noticing that every audio file is misplaced in your courses? Do you mind checking the Review link to see if any of the audio is incorrect?

Sue Read

I was also having the same issue on my very first slide in my learning content.  It is playing the Audio file from the 2nd content slide and not what is programmed to play when the first slide begins.  I had an outstanding 360 Update that needed installed.  I installed the update and that fixed the problem.  Thanks.
