Change timeline from seconds to minutes?

May 22, 2013

So, I'm doing a lot of audio sync. I'm listening to the wav in Media Player, and I want i.e. an arrow to appear at 3:48. Is there a way to set the main timeline to display minutes and seconds, not only seconds? That way I don't have to calculate 180+48= 228 seconds. ALL other audio/video editors etc can change display from minutes, seconds, frames etc... Some can even show multiple time stamps. Ironically, if I open the audio file for edit, that editor displays minutes/seconds.

If this is not possible at present, it should be an easy fix for an upcoming upgrade.

Sigurd.

Honestly, I find it amazing that this issue has still not been resolved. Given the age of the request and the painful nature of the issue, this should be a priority.

I use a lot of voiceover that I've to cut out between multiple Storyline slides, and this stupid problem is wasting my and my teams' time.

Hi, Everyone!

I have some great news to share! We just released a really cool feature that now displays minutes and seconds in Timeline. You’ll find out more about this feature here.

To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find step-by-step instructions here.

Please let us know if you have any questions by posting here, or reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.

Oh, good. This basic feature was updated.

If we expand the timeline further, will minutes and seconds convert to years? Looks like we need a slide that is 9+ years long to reflect the history of this comment thread asking for this adjustment.

(To the current staff, thank you for listening and making this happen. Sorry for my heavy dose of sarcasm in the above comment).

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for reaching out! There isn't a way to change the timeline back to seconds. I understand it can be a challenge to mentally convert seconds to minutes and vice-versa when working with triggers. To alleviate this, I created a converter in Google Sheets that you may find helpful. Here's the link for it:

Here's a quick Peek recording showing how to use the converter.

Let me know if that helps!

Hi Eric,

That is helpful as a work around, but shouldn't the triggers have been adapted to the new minute-second format? It seems like this was missed in the update that brought this new time format for the timeline. There is now a mismatch in the formats between the triggers and timeline. Either the triggers should match the minute-second format, or we should still have the ability to see the timeline in seconds.

Eric Santos

I agree with you, Andrew! It would be nice if there were an option to display the timeline in seconds for those working with triggers. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!

I have passed this suggestion on to our product team. We'll be sure to update this thread if any adjustments are made to this feature in the future.

Hello everyone!

Good news! Today, we just released Storyline 360 Update 74 (Build 3.74.30180.0) which includes a new feature to easily create time-based triggers in minutes and seconds.

Now all you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app!

If you have additional questions, don't hesitate to reach out in this discussion or in a support case.

Hi Apoorva,

Thanks for reaching out, and I'm sorry you're having problems with the timeline. What you're seeing may be something expected, as the timeline will only display minutes-seconds if your timeline is at least a minute long. This is what I see on my end:

timeline display

I attached the sample Storyline project used in that screenshot so you may test on your end. Do you see the same thing? If not, and you're working on your local drive, try running these steps to fix possible installation issues.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
