Problems with Storyline 3 Published output - misnamed and missing files

Oct 07, 2020

Hey Heroes,

I hope someone can help me with this. I have tried every possible solution/option I can think of to no avail.

When I publish a project, I choose LMS since that is where it inevitable goes and is what my predecessor instructed me to do. I have all settings as she indicated, but published output is considerably different than hers.

I've attached screenshots of her output and my own for comparison but will paste them both here as well for easier comparison. Note the differences in file names and file types:

Thank you for whatever help you can provide!

Update to my original post:

I downloaded the existing .story file from our SharePoint system to my local (C:) drive. I edited published it there as well. The output is still missing the "analytics_frame.html" file. Prior to zipping, I altered the "story" and "story_html5" files from opening with Storyline (note the Articulate icon to left of each in pic above) to open with Chrome (our courses run best on Chrome). I can now open and run the course from the story_html5 file - oddly, it open in IE, not chrome. But it only opens and runs the course lessons. Once the lessons are completed it should open the Post-Test but it stalls there.

I'm really stuck here and am hoping to hear from someone on what I need to do differently.

As always, thank you for any help you can offer.

Good morning, Richard!

Thank you for those helpful side-by-side screenshots and clues.

I saw you posted in a few other discussions as well, and it looks like you're taking the right steps:

  • You're opening the Storyline file on a local hard drive and publishing for LMS.
  • If you see the error, "Incorrect file package - missing imsmanifest.xml or AICC structure," it's likely that the output wasn't properly zipped. To correct it, you'll need to use Storyline's built-in Zip feature on the Publish Successful dialog after you've published your content, which you are. This process should automatically create a well-formed zip file.
    • Referencing this post, are you then uploading the zip file to your LMS or SharePoint?

Next Step

I'm not sure what could cause the analytics_frame.html file to disappear, so I've compiled all the relevant details you've given into a case for our Engineers. A confirmation email should reach your inbox shortly, so we'll continue over there!
