Resizing quiz items inserts scroll panel

Sep 25, 2012

Hi there:

I just completed a quiz question and while I was in screen view, I used the text box corner controls to resize the text box the answers appear in but instead a scrolling panel appeared in the answers and now only potential response is showing.

I didn't insert a scrolling panel. When I click "edit multiple choice", the question, responses and feedback look perfectly fine but the responses aren't displaying and I can't seem to delete the scrolling panel (not even sure how it got there).

Update: I was starting from scratch and now I realize the scroll box inserts automatically if the text is too long. Thing is I often have to test by giving 4 short scenarios so I may run out of room however the answers CAN fit comfortably on a screen. See the picture below....I want to use the text box handles to resize but it seems they don't respond. Is there any way to resize the area allowed for responses?

Good Afternoon Kate, and welcome to Heroes!

In order to make room for a number of lengthy multiple choice responses within one quiz slide, you will likely need to reduce the font size of each choice.  From Slide View, you can CTRL+click to select several choices and adjust the font as you see fit, then move and resize each choice to allow space for others.

Please let us know if you need anything else.  Thanks!

Hi Martin,

Did you review the previous information in that thread from Roman that he received in his support case? If you'd like, we can also take a look at your .story file here in the forums by using the "Add Attachment" button or you can send along to our team here.

Let us know if you're able to go through the steps Roman mentioned as well.

Hey Daniel,

It's been a while since we've seen posts about resizing those quiz items causing trouble. Sorry that you ran into this, but glad you reached out.

I have a few questions:

  • What version of Storyline are you using?
  • Any particular question type that is causing an issue?
  • Are you using a custom theme/background?

If you could get back to me on those and then share a sample .story file, that would be very helpful and I'd be happy to take a look.

This is with Storyline 360.

The question are True or false, and multiple choice.

The text and all the questions appear normally at the beginning. But if I add an image, and I resize the text box, it suddenly shrinks to one line. And I can't put it back to full size (even if there is plenty of space on the page).

The work around I found was to change the layout applied to the slide and choose the question layout master.
I have adjusted the layout of these pages and created a specific master page.

Thanks

Hi Daniel,

Are you trying to resize and answer text boxes? I know that's something a few other users have run into, and it's connected to how the questions are laid out automatically based on the font sizing, font, and the text wrapping. This is set up so that the answers can shuffle and keep the same distance between them.

I'm happy to hear you were able to adjust your question layout to account for this, but if you need anything else let us know!

Hey Brandon! Welcome to E-learning Heroes ⭐️

This thread is a bit outdated, and there are a couple of different issues brought up regarding resizing quiz items, so I'd like to start fresh!

Could you share more details about your current project and what specific issues you're experiencing? Screenshots or a Peek recording would be great!

Looking forward to your response so we can help troubleshoot!

Brandon Mitchell

Thanks. It's the same as the original poster's issue. The questions ended up in a scroll panel and if you try to drag the bottom to make it longer, it snaps to the one line. Then anytime you try to drag it back to a larger size, it snaps back to that one line. even if I try using undo thinking it would go back to before trying to drag and size, but doesn't. That's really the difficult part of this, once it snaps to that one line, you have to delete and recreate the answers. The workaround steps help before you try to resize, not after. So just wanted to comment this issue still exists.

Thanks for providing more details, Brandon! I see the original poster was using Multiple Choice question types. Are you also using Multiple Choice questions?

I'm using Storyline 360 (Build 3.56.26219.0) and not running into this behavior. Which version of Storyline are you using?  If you have a screen recording of the behavior, that would be helpful too!

If/when it does snap into one line, re-apply your slide layout to revert it back to normal.

The workaround I found is to increase the size of the text field box within your master slide... make it as big as possible and then you will be able to resize with your question box within that area.

Similar problem here. The question blanks are very narrow, and don't allow for a single line of text. If I edit the text copy, the question boxes get narrower but I can't seem to make them wider with any of the autofit/wrap combinations. None of the workarounds using layout (this is already in a Question layout) or toggling between form/slide view with blank answers is working.

Sometimes all it takes is a post! The workaround I just discovered was to manually bump up the size of the font using the A^ button rather than manually adjusting the font. It didn't increase linearly (i.e. sometimes it would shrink), but eventually it made the question options nice and wide and reduced text to a single line. Feels rather guess and check, but it worked!
