Screen Size Resolution

May 07, 2015

I purchased Storyline 2 after using the software on an older computer and I loved it.  I recently upgraded to what would be considered a standard new laptop from Best Buy, nothing special.  However, the resolution when I open the software is crazy small.  I have to go between programs nonstop for the design and engineering training I'm putting together, so switching the resolution while I work on it is not an option.  I was hoping the new upgrade would have fixed the issue, but no such luck...

Is there a fix for this or did I just waste $1500 and now need to go find different software that is up to date with the times??  If there's not a fix, any recommendations for other software platforms?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Please help!!  Thank you!!

Hi Michael,

I'm pretty sure it's not Storyline and may be just learning how the resolution settings are adjusted on your new laptop.

Questions for you:

  • Do you recall what resolution settings you had on your old laptop?
  • Can you confirm the new laptop resolution settings are the same?
  • Is the screen size between the old and new laptops the same or did you also upgrade to a larger screen?

Can't see the image. It posted in your reply as an email address.

That said, it may be Storyline. As 4k is new, what can properly display on those screens still needs to catch up. Same as when 1080p for TVs came on the market...while your TV could view high def content, most DVDs and Network and Cable channels were still on 720p.

I'll volley this back to Articulate on whether or not Storyline supports 4k yet or not.

As for your question on other software, I'd research the same question to ensure they support the 4k output or you'll be just as disappointed.

Hi Michael,

Just an FYI that replying via email includes your signature here as well, so you're welcome to edit the post and remove that information if you wish.

In regards to the issue, I don't have an update or timeframe to share but please know we have shared it with our team and impressed upon them the urgency and the number of folks who have indicated that they're being impacted here.

Hi April,

I don't have an update yet - and so as such you may find that user interface elements in Articulate Storyline are small and difficult to read on high resolution monitors—generally, monitors that display more than 2,000 pixels in width. I know that our team is working to improve performance on HD monitors. In the meantime, you may need to reduce your screen resolution while working in Storyline. Please also feel free to share your thoughts on this set up in the form of a feature request as those go to our product development team for review.

Sorry I couldn't be the bearer of better news for you.

I am operating on a Dell laptop with a very narrow set of options. I tried the four or five different options and none presented a usable screen. In the higher res options, the Storyline screen is so small it is illegible. The lowest res options essentially make the whole laptop unusable because the icons and screen layout are so large and pixelated that it is hard to read. For now, I am working on my old desktop with Storyline and have migrated to Captivate 9 for any work on the laptop.

I increased text size to  350%, reduced resolution to 1856x1392. Everything is HUGE now. Except for Articulate products. Still very tiny. Not at all  affected by the resolution change. I'm on Windows 10, Asus Zenbook.

Please understand that this is upsetting because have a new computer, but now Storyline and Articulate Suite (which I do all my work in) are so small that they are unusable.
