Screen Size Resolution
May 07, 2015
I purchased Storyline 2 after using the software on an older computer and I loved it. I recently upgraded to what would be considered a standard new laptop from Best Buy, nothing special. However, the resolution when I open the software is crazy small. I have to go between programs nonstop for the design and engineering training I'm putting together, so switching the resolution while I work on it is not an option. I was hoping the new upgrade would have fixed the issue, but no such luck...
Is there a fix for this or did I just waste $1500 and now need to go find different software that is up to date with the times?? If there's not a fix, any recommendations for other software platforms?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Please help!! Thank you!!

Hi Michael,
I'm pretty sure it's not Storyline and may be just learning how the resolution settings are adjusted on your new laptop.
Questions for you:
The screen is the 4k screen or whatever the new HD thing is. As soon as I open Storyline, this is what I get…

Can't see the image. It posted in your reply as an email address.
That said, it may be Storyline. As 4k is new, what can properly display on those screens still needs to catch up. Same as when 1080p for TVs came on the market...while your TV could view high def content, most DVDs and Network and Cable channels were still on 720p.
I'll volley this back to Articulate on whether or not Storyline supports 4k yet or not.
As for your question on other software, I'd research the same question to ensure they support the 4k output or you'll be just as disappointed.
Hi Michael,
Yes, it sounds like the normal DPI setting of Storyline which needs a DPI of 96 as detailed here, isn't working well with your high resolution monitor. This is something we've shared with our QA team and we'll keep you posted here.
Thank you. Hopefully this is something that can be fixed quickly.

Hi Michael,
Just an FYI that replying via email includes your signature here as well, so you're welcome to edit the post and remove that information if you wish.
In regards to the issue, I don't have an update or timeframe to share but please know we have shared it with our team and impressed upon them the urgency and the number of folks who have indicated that they're being impacted here.
I'd love a resolution to this issue as well. Storyline is way too small to function on my newer laptop.
Hi April,
I don't have an update yet - and so as such you may find that user interface elements in Articulate Storyline are small and difficult to read on high resolution monitors—generally, monitors that display more than 2,000 pixels in width. I know that our team is working to improve performance on HD monitors. In the meantime, you may need to reduce your screen resolution while working in Storyline. Please also feel free to share your thoughts on this set up in the form of a feature request as those go to our product development team for review.
I want to add one more request for support for the higher resolution screens. All of my other software looks fine on the screen but Storyline 2 is really small. Stepping to a lower resolution is not a viable alternative.
Agreed.
Let me know if anyone has figured out a solution or knows of another software program to purchase. The articulate team apparently doesn't mind losing business due to the fact they aren't willing to keep up with today's technology. It's actually yesterday's technology at this point in time.
Thanks Michael and Brent for sharing those images and thoughts here - I know it's something our team is looking into and aware of, so we continue to share the threads here with our team and you can also share your thoughts with them directly by submitting a feature request.
My solution for now is to migrate to Captivate 9. I hope Articulate can discover a resolution soon.
Has there been an update on this yet? I'm setting up new 4k laptop today and SL2 (which I've been doing all my work in) is now unusable. I've got the resolution set to make text as big as it can go - 350%- but SL2 is not changing.
Hi Steve,
There isn't an update yet from our team yet in regards to this issue and generally it occurs on monitors that display more than 2,000 pixels in width. We're working to improve performance on HD monitors. In the meantime, you may need to reduce your screen resolution while working in Storyline.
Sorry I couldn't be the bearer of better news for you.
Ashley:
Just so you know, the "reducing the screen resolution" option does not work. Adobe has solved this problem. I'm afraid if this is not made a priority, Articulate may lose a lot of ground.

I changed my screen resolution, but Articulate products still render in tiny, tiny text.
Reducing resolution on my HD monitor works fine. I'm using two BenQ BL270T monitors at 2560 x 1440 max resolution.
I reduced the monitor for Storyline to 1920 x 1080 and it's crystal clear.
Hi Steve and Brent,
Out of curiosity what did you reduce the size too? I'm not on a high resolution monitor myself, but have heard from other users (such as Kevin mentioned) that it does help render Storyline in the correct way.
I am operating on a Dell laptop with a very narrow set of options. I tried the four or five different options and none presented a usable screen. In the higher res options, the Storyline screen is so small it is illegible. The lowest res options essentially make the whole laptop unusable because the icons and screen layout are so large and pixelated that it is hard to read. For now, I am working on my old desktop with Storyline and have migrated to Captivate 9 for any work on the laptop.
I had the exact same problem and had to do the same thing. The Captivate software seems to work well though, along with great customer support.
Thanks Brent for sharing - and I'm sorry that this didn't work for you. We'll keep folks posted here for when there is additional information to share.
I increased text size to 350%, reduced resolution to 1856x1392. Everything is HUGE now. Except for Articulate products. Still very tiny. Not at all affected by the resolution change. I'm on Windows 10, Asus Zenbook.
Please understand that this is upsetting because have a new computer, but now Storyline and Articulate Suite (which I do all my work in) are so small that they are unusable.
Same problem here. My new laptop resolution has rendered Articulate unusable due to very small icons and texts. Very disappointing as any change on resolution settings is quite impractical as I have to use other programs beside Articulate when I make presentations.
Same problem here too. When will you fix this!!!!! It's been 7 months now since it was first reported.
More and more users obtain higher resolution on their computers. Articulate wake up and prioritize the solvning of the bug now !
When will you fix this bug?!
