SL2 Right-Click Trigger Fails

Jan 15, 2015

Hello. While this issue has been reported over two years ago, I have not been able to find a fix or workaround for this problem. The right-click trigger is broken in some cases. For example, if you use a right-click trigger to show a layer on a slide, it fails for me consistently. I have uploaded a test file to Tempshare here:

http://s3.amazonaws.com/tempshare-stage.storyline.articulate.com/stp19bn77g1tpgm1c9a10mv1b1315164/story.html

Slide two is setup to show a layer on right clicking the circle. Please help test this and post your results. I believe this to be a bug and want it finally addressed. PS. Right-click functionality also fails to work in some browsers when run locally. It was reported that running on an LMS or webserver will enable right-click functionality to work, however, it still fails for me. Given that this issue is over two years old now, I would really like this addressed and a permanent solution achieved.

Ditto, I just recorded a try me session all on base slides no layering and the right click functionality is not working for me either... very frustrating. Can't wait until we get it fixed.

Ashley,

Will you broadcast the message when it is fixed to all users or do we have to come back to this thread to see that it has been fixed, which seems inefficient.

Hi Conor,

No need to revisit the thread as long as you're subscribed you'll receive an email notification once we're able to share information here. I don't have a timeframe for when that'll be, but know I'll be in here once I have info to share. You can also look at ensuring you're system is set to "Check for Updates" and that'll help you know once you open Storyline if there are any new updates you want to download. To see what was fixed in each particular update you can review the release notes.

I think I might have a work around, please give me your opinion.

Logically your mouse needs to be placed over the object before you right click it so if you minimize the hot spot target and change the trigger to "mouse hovered over", then it will work to some extent like a right click. It will also promote the muscle memory that we want our trainees to develop.

If you add some text you like Paul suggests to each of these effected slides it could assist the trainee when they get into the real world system.

Hi Adam,

Is there a reason you'd hesitate to update to Storyline 2 Update 7? It did include a few other fixes/features as detailed here:

New Features:

  • Added support for Apple iOS 9
  • Added support for Google Chrome 44 and later on Android devices

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed issue where a lengthy course could lock up during preview or playback in a Flash-enabled browser
  • Fixed issue where right-click triggers wouldn't work on base layers in Flash output
  • Fixed issue where key-press triggers assigned to the slide wouldn't work after clicking the slide in Flash output
  • Fixed issue where pressing arrow keys would highlight items in the menu rather than moving objects on the slide

Hi Ashley,

As right-click functionality is an absolutely vital piece of the eLearning content I build, it will create a great deal of re-work as it did when version 5 was originally released. My leadership team simply asks we get confirmation before we take the plunge. I have ever confidence, but still answer to a higher power!

On the other hand, the additional enhancements look wonderful, and I'm eager to get on board.
