SL2 Right-Click Trigger Fails
Jan 15, 2015
Hello. While this issue has been reported over two years ago, I have not been able to find a fix or workaround for this problem. The right-click trigger is broken in some cases. For example, if you use a right-click trigger to show a layer on a slide, it fails for me consistently. I have uploaded a test file to Tempshare here:
Slide two is setup to show a layer on right clicking the circle. Please help test this and post your results. I believe this to be a bug and want it finally addressed. PS. Right-click functionality also fails to work in some browsers when run locally. It was reported that running on an LMS or webserver will enable right-click functionality to work, however, it still fails for me. Given that this issue is over two years old now, I would really like this addressed and a permanent solution achieved.

Not at this time Joyce. This issue is still in the hands of our QA Team.
Ditto, I just recorded a try me session all on base slides no layering and the right click functionality is not working for me either... very frustrating. Can't wait until we get it fixed.
Ashley,
Will you broadcast the message when it is fixed to all users or do we have to come back to this thread to see that it has been fixed, which seems inefficient.
Hi Conor,
No need to revisit the thread as long as you're subscribed you'll receive an email notification once we're able to share information here. I don't have a timeframe for when that'll be, but know I'll be in here once I have info to share. You can also look at ensuring you're system is set to "Check for Updates" and that'll help you know once you open Storyline if there are any new updates you want to download. To see what was fixed in each particular update you can review the release notes.
I think I might have a work around, please give me your opinion.
Logically your mouse needs to be placed over the object before you right click it so if you minimize the hot spot target and change the trigger to "mouse hovered over", then it will work to some extent like a right click. It will also promote the muscle memory that we want our trainees to develop.
If you add some text you like Paul suggests to each of these effected slides it could assist the trainee when they get into the real world system.
I ended up making a small graphic with an "annoyed trainer" advising that right click doesn't work and to use left click instead. When it's fixed I can simply remove the annoyed trainer. This way I didn't have to re-record several slides. :)
Nice fix Joyce and creative idea!
I like that idea as well Joyce :) Thanks for sharing.
Hey Joyce. That sounds like a great idea. Would you mind posting the graphic?
Sure! Here you go.
Haha! Furrowed brows and all ;) Thanks for sharing Joyce.
Awesome idea Joyce love it.
Thank you. This worked beautifully!
Glad this was able to assist you as well Amy :)
Do we have any update on an actual fix though?
Not at this time Amy. It is still in the hands of our QA Team and this thread is flagged for update when applicable.
Hi Paul,
Thanks for your reply.
We came up with a sentence letting users know that "we" would do it for them if they press Enter, but it was not that well received. We have to come up with another solution.
I'll let you guys know if we find a cool workaround.
Hi Ashley,
Thank you for your reply.
As mentioned above, I haven't found a good work around yet but I will take a look at the following replies on this thread.
Thanks Amelie and please feel free to keep us posted as you continue to determine a workaround.
Hi all,
You may find that right-click triggers aren't working on the base slide layers in your Articulate Storyline 2 Flash output.
This issue was fixed in Update 7 for Storyline 2. Install the latest version of Storyline 2 to take advantage of the new features and fixes, then republish your course.
Hooray! I'll try it out.
Thanks Joyce. Can you let the rest of us know if it works for you before we attempt the upgrade?
Hi Adam,
Is there a reason you'd hesitate to update to Storyline 2 Update 7? It did include a few other fixes/features as detailed here:
New Features:
Bug Fixes:
I just downloaded the update and adjusted my file removing the instructions that the rightclick functionality is not working and changing the triggers to be right clicks. I checked in preview to see if it worked and then uploaded it to the LMS and it works there as well.
Hi Ashley,
As right-click functionality is an absolutely vital piece of the eLearning content I build, it will create a great deal of re-work as it did when version 5 was originally released. My leadership team simply asks we get confirmation before we take the plunge. I have ever confidence, but still answer to a higher power!
On the other hand, the additional enhancements look wonderful, and I'm eager to get on board.
Perfect. Thanks for the update Conor!
