status indicators

Jun 10, 2016

Hey, does anyone know how to add status indicators? Something that would show when a chapter has been reviewed, not reviewed yet, or only partially viewed? I have worked with another tool, Lectora, that has easy menu options to add such a thing without goin gthrough the hassle of a variable. Does anyone know a simple way to do it in artuculate?

Hello Brian,

The built-in course menu in Articulate indicates reviewed and not reviewed by changing the font color of slides viewed to a different "visited" color.  This can be tweaked and toyed with in the Player options.

Other than that there are no options that don't involve the use of variables, triggers and image states.

Hi, Brian S -- Just wanted to touch base with you, as I was recently in touch with Ann from our Customer Care team regarding some additional questions you are having. May I ask if there is a particular style of menu-status indication that you are hoping to achieve? Did you want to change the color of the line items after viewing, or use a checkmark or something similar? Please feel free to share any additional details you can on what you have in mind! :)

And do you happen to have a file started already that you might be able to share so that others are able to offer more project-specific ideas? If so, please use the grey ADD ATTACHMENT button in the bottom left of the reply box and you will be able to browse and upload from there.

Please also note that our Building Better Courses forum is where you may want to post this question as well for design-related how-tos and instruction, but I thought perhaps you might want to take a look at the following discussions:

And here is some additional information on Using Variables to achieve some of the effects above:

Please let us know if that helps or other ways we may be able to assist!

Christine, thanks for the link. I just posted this to the link you gave me:

I am trying to set a button on a navigation page that will reveal a VISITED state when a user simply visits a chapter, and a COMPLETED state when the entire chapter has been reviewed. I know this means setting up triggers attached to variables, and I *THINK* I have set these up correctly, but each time I test the button, it doesn't work. I have run myself ragged trying to review each tutorial about variables, and I THINK I understand how to set this up, but apparently I don't.

ps: I've attached the triggers on the page with the buttons, and the trigger that I put on the final page of the chapter the button is associated with

Thanks, Brian, and for anyone else who come across this discussion or may be following along, here is a link to the discussion Brian started in the BBC forum. And I did want to note, if you did want to share your .story file here, please be sure that you are navigating to the post itself, as any attachments sent via email will not transmit to be accessible here in the post otherwise.
