Tips for Storyine 2 users on Windows 10

Aug 28, 2015

If you've upgraded to Windows 10 you may see a notice that Storyline has been deactivated. Don't worry; this is easy to resolve for Storyline 2. Please visit our Support site for reactivation instructions.

Please note, Articulate Storyline 1 isn't officially supported with Windows 10, and published Storyline 1 courses aren't officially supported with the new Microsoft Edge browser.

If you choose to use Storyline 1 with Windows 10, you may see a UI_AdminRequiredNotice error message. You should be able to fix it by running the reactivation instructions linked above.

Hi Tex,

I wanted to provide an update here, as Storyline 2 Update 8 was just released, and included a number of fixes which you can see in the release notes available here. The item you all may be particularly interested in is how it fixed an issue where exporting text to a Word doc for translation wouldn't always work. You can download the latest update here, and after downloading and installing the latest update you’ll want to republish any existing content to ensure that the updates and fixes are applied.

Let us know if you have any questions, either here or by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.

Hey everyone,

We have older SL1 files that need to be updated and have upgraded to Win10. We can open the SL1 files in SL2, but cannot preview or publish. It errors out! "We're sorry, something went wrong with Articulate Storyline..."

How can we fix this?

It does work in Win7 on our older computer, but not in SL2 on Win10.

So frustrating!

Would appreciate any help!
Jason

Hi Jason,

Storyline 1 isn't supported with Windows 10, but the files should upgrade to Storyline 2 normally. Have you tested one of the files you upgraded on your Windows 7 machine to see if that SL2 version works normally? What about files created brand new in Storyline 2 within Windows 10?

You may want to go through the repair steps for Storyline 2.

I have not seen anyone say that they have had problems Previewing Storyline 3 files after a Windows 10 upgrade.  I am having that problem.  Anyone else?  I have trouble if I preview a single slide and if I try to View Project after publishing.  My IS support walked me through making sure my default browser was IE 11, but it still is not consistently previewing as before when I was running Windows 7.

Hey Curtis!

Any chance you can share your .story file so that we can take a peek and see if it's behavior that we can replicate?

It looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.

I tested in Storyline 2 and the Preview function works as it should, so I don't think it is the Flash Player.  After upgrading to Windows 10, with the help of my IS support person, we changed the browser default from Edge to IE 11.  It worked one time after doing that, but now doesn't ever load.  Here is a .story file that is exhibiting the problem.

Thanks for sharing Curtis.

So, just to clarify, you're not able to even get this far to see the preview correct?

Looks like there have been no triggers added yet, so wanted to make sure you weren't just thinking your course did not work.

That being said, if it's the preview as I assume, then it's working well for me in SL3.

I would double check the system requirements outlined here. I know you mentioned conducting the repair, but this article goes a little more in depth when your software is not working properly. You are welcome to work directly with a support engineer here if you wish as well.
