To be clear, Java and JavaScript are not the same thing. Java, originated by Sun Microsystems, now owned by Oracle, is used to develop application software and deploy it in a cross-platform computing environment.

JavaScript, originated at Netscape Communications as ECMAScript, is primarily a client-side scripting language used by web browsers.

Articulate has put together a Storyline 360: JavaScript Best Practices and Examples article which explains how to implement JavaScript within Storyline.

To begin learning the JavaScript language, W3Schools.com has its JavaScript Tutorial.
