Trying to pick a shape's border color to match other on-screen elements. The eyedropper only works in the dialog box. Once outside, the chosen color is black no matter what the eyedropper is over. SL version 12.14647.0

I'm gonna drop the magic pill. When using the Eye Dropper outside the palette, hold Middle Mouse Button, then left click. Boom.

I just wanted to let you all know that the issue where the Eyedropper tool wouldn't always select your chosen color when using multiple monitors with different DPI settings was fixed in Update 30 of Storyline 360. Please ensure you’re on the latest update to get this function working correctly! Looks like the way Parallels is set up, I am using an iMac 27" with additional 27"external display, in fact storyline only ever runs off the external display. I may however be a combination of the screen settings in MAcOS and Parallels. Something doesnt feel right though, because you cannot left click and select the colour. I have just dragged out my magic mouse (I swapped to a Logitech with programmable buttons to open all the storyline dialogues via the mouse) and left click works for me, fine. I think you may need to type/screenshare with someone to check the settings in MacOS, parallels and Windows to see what is going on. I dont think it is a storyline issue.

I run Storyline 3 on an external monitor connected to my laptop. I discovered that if you change the Windows display scale setting to 100% (it defaults to 125%), the color picker will work just fine. Hope this helps!

OUR SOLUTION:We have been having this issue for months with Storyline 360, and what finally worked for us was a combination of the above suggestions: When testing the laptop in isolation, before you shut down the laptop, shut down Storyline, or disconnect the external monitors, make sure the storyline app window has been moved over to the laptop screen. You can move it back to the external monitors after restarting it. (When testing the laptop only for functionality, our developer still had the same eyedropper issue because she left the app window open on her external monitors when shutting down the computer or disconnecting the monitors. If she moved the app window over to the laptop before disconnecting from the external monitors, the eyedropper worked fine on the laptop.) Make sure that you actually disconnect the monitors, not just turn them off, when testing Storyline on your laptop. (The Storyline eyedropper wouldn't register, even on the laptop screen, if we simply turned off the external monitors.) Set all your display settings, including the laptop, to 100% (And it may work to simply make them all consistent. We didn't test 125% across the board, but that may work, too.) After resetting all your display settings to 100%, you have to restart Storyline for them to take effect within the app. (The rest of the display changed immediately, so we didn't initially think it worked until we tried restarting Storyline after changing the settings.) Hope this helps someone. The struggle is real... P.S. Neither changing how we accessed the eyedropper nor the mouse button workarounds mentioned above worked for us. As also mentioned above, the eyedropper seemed to be selecting colors from several inches (a "hands width") away from the curser.

Has there been a fix to this yet? I get the same thing with multiple monitors. If I unplug them it works. I can get it working (sort of) with just one extra monitor. But as I use the eyedropper, I have a color (colour) box following the eyedropper. Sometimes the distance from the eyedropper to the box changes too. It now seems like it is 300-500 pixels off.

I might have found a lead on this one. I was having other problems with another app, and this appears to have solved both problems (for now).

I have two bigger monitors attached to a docked laptop with a very small screen, so I had the Display Scaling Setting (Windows 10) set to 150% on the small screen, but not on the large ones.

So, in the display settings, I set all three monitors to display at 100%, and the color picker appears to be grabbing the right pixels now. I haven't tested this extensively, but, it appears to be working for me for now. However, the text on my laptop screen is now tiny, but, I can grab the right colors.

If this is not the solution, I hope it helps to lead someone there!

  I believe I've written a suggestion on this thread long ago, but here's how it worked for me: while the Color Picker is active, hover over to the area you wish to pick as usual. When you see the 'wrong' preview from SL, hold down your RightMouseButton, you'll see the SL preview showing the correct color. Now left click while your RightMouseButton is suppressed.

Here is a related problem concerning the colour picker.

I created a box and filled it using a custom colour (#D40511 - RGB 212,5,17)

I then checked the colour using the picker and it tells me that the colour is now #D40612 - RGB 255,6,18!

Which is the correct colour?

How do I check that a colour is accurate (my client is extremely obsessed with the correct use of their colours

How can I be confident that the work I am doing is not 'changing' without my knowledge?

  Thanks for sharing that video and example. I tested the same scenario and color options and found that when I went back to look at it with the eyedropper, it showed RGB 212, 6, 18. Still different than the original but much closer than you saw.
  
  I'm sharing an example of this with my team so that we can investigate further!
  
  In the meantime, I did notice that if I went to one of the objects to check the color fill within the fill window and that still showed the correct color, I had set it as.
  
  I'll keep you posted here on what I hear from my team!

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know you are running into this issue as well. Are you using an additional monitor? Does this work if you disconnect it?

In addition, were you able to try the solution that Ashley shared above:

It behaves oddly when using: Format Shape > Color > More Colors > Click the Eyedropper

What you could do instead is use: Format Shape > Color > Eyedropper

Same problem. I have two monitors and no matter what color I hover over when using the More Colors pallet, I get gray. Zett's suggestion of holding the right, then clicking the left button did work because I have a PC. I was not trying to repeat the color, but to capture the formula to use on a companion piece.
