Font issues in Storyline

Dec 13, 2012

I'm using a couple of fun fonts in a SL course that I'm building. One in particular, Baveuse, shows up just fine in SL when I'm building the course but, when I preview it, the font doesn't render correctly. See the screen shots below. Any idea why?

We're experiencing the same issue with several Storyline files.  The fonts are not coming through.  Our developer is submitting a case now, but if you've found anything that will help...that would be great!

We've already published these files and they worked, but we made changes this morning and expereinced the font issue.

Hey Jenny, welcome to Heroes!

Really sorry for the trouble, but it sounds like you may be running into an issue we discovered just recently. A Microsoft Windows update released December 11, 2012 prevents OpenType fonts from rendering properly.
We provided a programmatic workaround for this issue in Update 2 for Storyline. There's more info on this here
Let us know if that seems like the culprit...

Hi Bryce,

We actually just confirmed that the Windows update is effecting fonts in Presenter, too. For now, the only workarounds are to either use another font or to uninstall the Microsoft update. Microsoft is aware of the issue this update caused and there have been a lot of reports of this happening.

I also needed to uninstall the update on my machine and I had no trouble doing so. If you, or your IT department, are not comfortable doing so, the only thing I can suggest is to try using different fonts, at least until the issue is resolved.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Just a general question:

Can I use other fonts, than the default fonts in Storyline?

I am designing the flow of the pages of a project, and I really need to know if I can put a cool font, that isn't in the list. So, a font that I could add to the list, or is that not possible?

I'm not working with storyline, (my absent colleague is), but I need an answer sooner than he returns to the office from holiday...

Can anyone help please? I couldn't find this specific info on the site...

Thanks in advance.

That is an EXCELLENT question.  Please note, I have not attempted this in Storyline but we do have proprietary fonts we utilize and they came through in Presenter 09.  I too am curious if this will still work in Storyline.  I don't have time to test but wanted to mention that it worked in Presenter 09.

Best of luck, please keep us posted.

Hi Maya,

at the moment, I have no clear answer: Support has been answering me by mail, but the answer is still not covering my simple question: can I add a new font from my computer into the font list of Storyline?...

I hope this important feature is present in the software. That would give me a lot of creative freedom...

Antoon.

I am trying to use a Password font that shows the password entry when the user types in the text entry field.  It works perfectly on my computer, since the font is installed there, but it doesn't work on anyone else's computer.  As a workaround, I have the user type the field showing the password.  On the next slide, I convert the text to the Password font and explain that this is how it will look in the system.  Any other suggestions?

Please keep in mind that I'm working with users that will not have administrative rights to their computer.

I'm having a similar issue. The courses I created in Storyline use the Articulate font, but when users access these courses in the LMS, some of them are seeing a different font (I think it's defaulting to Times New Roman), which on some slides, screws up the alignment of the text (I have the text box overlaying an image of a system screen with columns, and I need the text to align to the columns). Is this font not part of the published package and available for any user who accesses the courses? Or do all individual users need to have this font installed on their computers?

Hi Brande,

The font and text that is on individual slides become part of the course - but if you're using variable references and the user doesn't have the font installed, then it'll revert to system fonts. You mentioned there were a few users who didn't see the right font, have you checked to see if they were using a particular browser or anything different between those users who saw the right text vs. those that didn't?

Ashley Terwilliger-Pollard

Hi Brande,

The other text is embedded as a part of the slide and content, the variable entries are relying on what fonts the user has installed. The other issue with variables, is when referenced as within the HTML5 or mobile player output the custom fonts aren't included and therefore falls back to the system fonts.

Hi Suraj,

I do see that our team is aware of an issue with Century Gothic font not displaying the same between slide stage and publish. They're investigating the issue, but I don't have any additional information to share at this time, although I will link this thread to the open report so that once there is an update I'll be able to share here.
