A video cannot be inserted from this embed code.
Oct 23, 2014
Update: I still have SL1 on my machine so I copied a code SL2 rejected, and SL1 took it with no problem. I really need to figure this out.
----
Can anyone tell me what the requirements are for an embed code? We're using the same videos on the same servers that we've been using for years. In SL1, no worries--we used the embed codes from our media server and had no trouble. Before we switched to SL2, I tested out the video feature to make sure we could embed the same way we always did, with no trouble. As of a couple of weeks ago, I could.
Here's an example of a video I embedded a couple of weeks ago that worked fine:
<iframe src="https://w.kontiki.com/laquinta/player/2f1eddaf-fd6f-4d0e-886e-42a0d0b49df6?params=MD10cnVlOzE9NTM7MTI9dHJ1ZQ==" style="border:none;width:100%;height:100%" scrolling='no' allowfullscreen></iframe>
NOW, when i go and try THAT VERY code, I get this message:
A video cannot be inserted from this embed code. Verify that the embed code is correct and try again.
What changed from a couple of weeks ago? I recommended SL2 and we upgraded based on many tests, including embedded video. There is simply no reason it shouldn't work today.

I see what you mean. Looks like a bug potentially in the latest release of Storyline 2 (since it was working for you earlier during your testing).
Thanks Stephanie. I will report it as a bug. It's not going to save my arse for my deadlines, but maybe the person who takes my place will be helped! (just kidding...I won't lose my job, I'll just look like an idiot.)
As a workaround, you could add the embed code to an HTML page and link this page to a SL2 webobject.
That sounds like a great suggestion, Michael, but the media server is password protected. The admin has to generate a public access url for me to embed so it will run through the LMS without having to log in to the server.
Hi guys,
I am having the same issue with Storyline 2.
Looking forward to a resolve to this.
Hi Jill
I see that this was reported to our QA team, but it seemed specific to Patricia's embed code and that she's using videos from a site called kontiki.com. Are you trying to embed video's from the same place or all videos you're trying to embed are not working in SL2?
Hi Ashley,
Thanks so much for your reply. I am trying to embed code from Youtube.
Hi Jill,
I haven't seen a specific problem with YouTube as a whole in SL2 - do you have a sample video you could share or that video in one slide ?
I received an answer from support that said they could duplicate my trouble, but not sure if or when they'd fix it. Here's my temporary work around. I don't know if it will help Jill or not, but maybe someone else will benefit if they still have SL1 loaded AND if they have permissions on their streaming service:
1. Make a file VideoSlide.story in STORYLINE 1.
2. Open the file in you want to insert the video in from STORYLINE 2.
3. Find your video on [your streaming service]
a. Get the embed code and then make sure it allows public access
b. Copy the code to your clipboard
4. In VideoSlide.story, insert video from website and paste your copied embed code. Save. Close.
5. Go to your SL2 file and click File > Import > Storyline and choose VideoSlide.story. In the dialogue box that comes up, make sure that one slide is selected, then at the bottom choose Current Scene. Click Import. Save.
6. Manipulate video how you want it to look and carry on.
Thanks Patricia for sharing that here.
Hi I am having a problem embeding a Vimeo Video, No problem inserting it but once published and uploaded on to scorm cloud the video does not play. Just a white box appears. How ever strangely when I upload it to my server it plays fine.
Had no issues in Storyline 1, and go live is next week. Hope a fix will be released soon.
Got a new lap top so dont' have SL1 any more and can't find a link to down load it from.
PS. to make sure it was not my video's embed code causing the issue, I took this random embed code off the vimeo site and that also did not work.
<iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/109013982" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe> <p><a href="http://vimeo.com/109013982">Sebastien Tellier - Love (Official Video)</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/recordmakers">Record Makers</a> on <a href="https://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
Hi Nigel,
I tested this myself and grabbed another random Vimeo video and used the embed code to Insert video - From Website. Here is the copy of that example course. It's the first slide, and the video loads in the screen and then I just have to click the play button to start it.
Can you take a look at that one for me? Also, are you going to be hosting it on SCORM Cloud or on your server? You'll want to test within the intended environment for deployment.
Hi all,
Thanks so much for your replies I really appreciate it. Michael, I think that is a great idea with the HTML page. I will try that. Patricia, thanks for the workaround also.
Hi Ashley,
Thanks for your quick response. I took a look again and found out the problem. Scorm cloud useses secure servers (https) and the embed code I was using from Vimeo was not secure (http) I found this on the Vimeo site "If you’re using an older version of the Vimeo embed code (with a http://player.vimeo.com URL within it), you’ll simply need to change “http” to “https” and it should start working!"
And indeed it is working now.
many thanks!
Nigel
Hi Nigel,
Thanks for the update and finding that piece of information! I'll keep that in mind if I hear of other users having difficulty with SCORM Cloud.
Hi,
I'm also experiencing this problem. I can post my youtube embed code if needed but I just tried it with a random youtube video and I get the same error.
Hi John,
We'd be happy to take a look at your Youtube embed code - but I just tried this with one I pulled off the site (pretty cute actually, of the kid who fist bumps all the Bruins as they come off the ice). I loaded it to Tempshare, which is active for 10 days, but you can view it here. The video plays on the first slide for me. Can you test this and let me know if you're having any difficulty.
Hi Ashley,
My embed code is:
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Ugl8bmZF9Pc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Thanks
Hello John!
I tested your embed code and I got the video to play without issues on the SCORM Cloud as well as a web publish.
Are you getting a specific error while trying to embed this?
Hi Emily,
May be this has something to do with my companies firewall? The error I get is:
"A video cannot be inserted from this embed code. Verify that the embed code is correct and then try again."
I have embedded the video as a web object using only the youtube link that is in the embed code. It is a decent enough work around for now.
Hello John,
I would suggest contacting your IT department about the possible firewall issue. Glad you have a workaround for now.
We also publish our video's on a Kontiki-server and I have the same problem Patricia has.
I will try the workaround, but I hope this will be fixed soon, we really have a lot of e-learnings with video!!
Hi Katja,
I don't have an update on this issue yet, but please stay subscribed to this thread so that you'll receive notifications via email of any updates!
Hi all,
We use Kontiki as well and are having the same issues. Is there any update to this issue?
