A video cannot be inserted from this embed code.

Oct 23, 2014

Update: I still have SL1 on my machine so I copied a code SL2 rejected, and SL1 took it with no problem.  I really need to figure this out.

----

Can anyone tell me what the requirements are for an embed code? We're using the same videos on the same servers that we've been using for years. In SL1, no worries--we used the embed codes from our media server and had no trouble. Before we switched to SL2, I tested out the video feature to make sure we could embed the same way we always did, with no trouble. As of a couple of weeks ago, I could.

Here's an example of a video I embedded a couple of weeks ago that worked fine:

<iframe src="https://w.kontiki.com/laquinta/player/2f1eddaf-fd6f-4d0e-886e-42a0d0b49df6?params=MD10cnVlOzE9NTM7MTI9dHJ1ZQ==" style="border:none;width:100%;height:100%" scrolling='no' allowfullscreen></iframe>

NOW, when i go and try THAT VERY code, I get this message:

A video cannot be inserted from this embed code. Verify that the embed code is correct and try again.

What changed from a couple of weeks ago? I recommended SL2 and we upgraded based on many tests, including embedded video. There is simply no reason it shouldn't work today.

I received an answer from support that said they could duplicate my trouble, but not sure if or when they'd fix it. Here's my temporary work around. I don't know if it will help Jill or not, but maybe someone else will benefit if they still have SL1 loaded AND if they have permissions on their streaming service:

1. Make a file VideoSlide.story in STORYLINE 1.

2. Open the file in you want to insert the video in from STORYLINE 2.

3. Find your video on [your streaming service]

a. Get the embed code and then make sure it allows public access

b. Copy the code to your clipboard

4. In VideoSlide.story, insert video from website and paste your copied embed code. Save. Close.

5. Go to your SL2 file and click File > Import > Storyline and choose VideoSlide.story.  In the dialogue box that comes up, make sure that one slide is selected, then at the bottom choose Current Scene. Click Import. Save.

6. Manipulate video how you want it to look and carry on.

Hi I am having  a problem embeding a Vimeo Video,  No problem inserting it but once published and uploaded on to scorm cloud the video does not play. Just a white box appears.  How ever strangely when I upload it to my server it plays fine.

Had no issues in Storyline 1, and go live is next week. Hope a fix will be released soon.

Got a new lap top so dont' have SL1 any more and can't find a link to down load it from.

PS. to make sure it was not my video's embed code causing the issue, I took this random embed code off the vimeo site and that also did not work.

<iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/109013982" width="500" height="281" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe> <p><a href="http://vimeo.com/109013982">Sebastien Tellier - Love (Official Video)</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/recordmakers">Record Makers</a> on <a href="https://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>

Hi Nigel,

I tested this myself and grabbed another random Vimeo video and used the embed code to Insert video - From Website. Here is the copy of that example course.  It's the first slide, and the video loads in the screen and then I just have to click the play button to start it.

Can you take a look at that one for me? Also, are you going to be hosting it on SCORM Cloud or on your server? You'll want to test within the intended environment for deployment.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your quick response. I took a look again and found out the problem. Scorm cloud useses secure servers (https) and the embed code I was using from Vimeo was not secure (http) I found this on the Vimeo site "If you’re using an older version of the Vimeo embed code (with a http://player.vimeo.com URL within it), you’ll simply need to change “http” to “https” and it should start working!"

And indeed it is working now.

many thanks!

Hi John,

We'd be happy to take a look at your Youtube embed code - but I just tried this with one I pulled off the site (pretty cute actually, of the kid who fist bumps all the Bruins as they come off the ice). I loaded it to Tempshare, which is active for 10 days, but you can view it here. The video plays on the first slide for me. Can you test this and let me know if you're having any difficulty.

Hi Emily,

May be this has something to do with my companies firewall?  The error I get is:

"A video cannot be inserted from this embed code.  Verify that the embed code is correct and then try again."

I have embedded the video as a web object using only the youtube link that is in the embed code.  It is a decent enough work around for now.
