How to include a downloadable file within Storyline

Is it possible to upload a pdf file to a Storyline project, where once it's published, the learner can download the file as part of the learning?

  • Yes, you can trigger a download from a slide by inserting a button and adding the trigger to it.

Please see the attached file for your reference.

  • Hi Dominic,

Yes, you can attach the file in the Resources section of the player. From within the project, go to the Publish tab and select Player. You'll see Resources as an optional player tab. Check the box and choose where you want it to display, then select Resources (paperclip) from the menu at the top. From there you can add your file by clicking the paper/new icon at the bottom. Learners will see the Resources tab when in the course and click it to select attachments to download.

It opens up in a new window what about if user need to download directly without navigating to a new window?

  • Can you trigger a download from a slide? Or is the only way to access download-able files the Resources link?

  • THANK YOU! I was trying to use a hot spot. Getting a bit punchy - long day.

This article doesn't seem to exist any more(?). When I click "How to trigger an immediate file download on a storyline 360 project" I get an error. Is there any more insight on this? I have a need to have learners simply download a file directly, rather than clicking a link and opening it.

There a couple ways to do this.

1 - You can add the file to the Resources section of the Player.

2 - You can use the following trigger on a button or other object. Open URL/file when the user clicks X object. If you don't want users to click anything, you can change the trigger to anything else. Maybe when the timeline reaches a certain point.
