Logo image in Menu is fuzzy

Jun 20, 2012

All the images in my Stories are razor-sharp, except for any PNG logo I put into the Menu in the left Sidebar. No matter how I resize the PNG, the logo looks blurry by comparison. It's not horrible, but you notice it, and I'm sure the client will, too.

I've used PNGs from 200 pixels wide to 1600 pixels wide, at 72dpi and 300dpi. Everything looks the same. Anyone else having this issue? I'd post a screenshot, but the picture insertion feature of this forum doesn't have the detail to show what I mean.

I just wanted to echo our observations about the noticeably low quality of published player logo images.  We've tried many different image file formats and resolutions, but the resulting compressed/pixelated output always seems to be the same. The images in the project itself are quite crisp and clear.

Logos are often a very important focal point for the project and having a highly compressed logo doesn't convey a good first impression.  I'd love to see changes made to how logo image compression is handled.

Hi Kevin,

If you have an example of this that you could share, we'd be happy to take a look. I'm not sure if you looked at the previous examples I shared with Daniela, but there wasn't a change in quality for me - and as I also mentioned it's dependent on if you're doing any scaling of the player/browser as well.

Just wanted to chime in and say that Ashley posted a great tip for keeping the logo looking sharp over in this thread: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/logo-display-as-very-poor-quality

She recommends using an image that has a maximum width of 200 pixels and a maximum height of 220 pixels. This certainly worked for me, and although not perfect the improvement in quality was noticeable.

Hi everyone, have there been any updates on this? I'm still running into this issue on SL360, even when I use images with a max of 200px in any dimension. Kind of crazy that it hasn't been fixed in 2 major product releases since it was originally reported for SL1...

Locking the player to optimal size is not an option for my clients - it needs to be scalable. They would rather remove the logo than prevent course scaling to browser size. Is there no way to control the compression of images in the player?

Hi everyone,

Yes indeed this issue seems to persist since SL1.

I have one tip to re-establish the original quality of logo. After publishing your module, you can open the "mobile" folder and you will find your fuzzy logo (2 files).

To solve this issue, replace those 2 fuzzy files with your original logo (you have to rename your original file to replace/fit the two fuzzy files).

Done! The logo is perfect when you open the module :)

I've successfully used this approach when there was only one file to replace.

I would assume that the two files would exist if the image was used another time somewhere else in the course. Since it would be difficult or impossible to tell which file is used where, it would be easiest to replace both in that scenario.

Although this workaround is feasible for exported courses, it doesn't help the problem in Articulate Review. Support team, we've submitted multiple feature requests. Please get on the development team to prioritize this!

Hi all,

Thanks for continuing to share here. This issue is in the hands of our development team to take a look at, and I've reprioritized it based on the comments shared here.

I'll keep you posted once here if there is anything more to share. In the meantime, the workaround we've identified (that may not work for all users) is too set the Player size to "Lock player at optimal size", then the logo is sharp.

Hi all,

We released an update for Storyline 360 this AM, which fixed an issue where white lines could appear around slides and the logo might be blurry when a course scaled to fill the browser window.

Take a look at the details here to install the latest update.

Please let us know if you have any questions, either here or by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.

Note: This fix is available for Storyline 360 and will be included in the next update/release of Storyline 3 - date TBD. We'll share information here once that's available.
