Flash Player 16 Issue
Dec 09, 2014
By
Brian Gil
Hi Everyone,
Adobe released Adobe Flash Player 16 on December 9, 2014 and, as a result, Articulate Storyline won’t open. Published content isn’t impacted.
We’re working fast and furiously to fix the issue and will release updates for Storyline 1 and Storyline 2 as soon as humanly possible.
Stay tuned,
Brian Gil
Head of Product Operations
*UPDATE* The issue has been resolved for Storyline 2 and Storyline 1. Please upgrade to the latest version of Storyline 2 or Storyline 1 as appropriate. Updates for other products are in progress.

Hey everyone, I've found a temporary workaround for Storyline 1. It seems this all stems from a Windows Update:
Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3008925)
I've uninstalled this update in control panel > View installed updates > and found the update KB3008925, restarted my PC and everything is working fine.
Of course, Windows is going to want to update this again and again so until Articulate patches Storyline 1, you may need to repeat this whenever you restart your machine.
I'm curious why they're not updating. There are a lot of important changes in each update so it is hugely beneficial to stay current.
Hi Joseph!.
Many thanks for your suggestion It worked great to me !. At least I can continue with my work until a final fix.
Best regarsrd
Hi Joseph.
It worked very good to me, I can go back to my work,
Thanks a lot
I've re-installed and it's now in Chinese. Anyone any idea how to fix this?
I tried this, and it said Flash was uninstalled, but when I open Internet Explorer, it says the most recent Flash is integrated with Windows 8 and I still can't get this fix to work.
I am confident that the update for Storyline 1 to address the Flash Player issue will be coming today, most likely in the next few hours. I will post here again as soon as it's available.
Thanks everyone for your patience.
Hi Howie,
You can change the Language interface as described here. Let us know if you need any additional assistance.
Uninstalling using the uninstall tool did not work. Got rid of Chrome and ran uninstall again. Still says I have newer Flash that 15. Nothing works. This is hugely frustrating. Especially since I just convinced my boss to go with Articulate and not Adobe Captivate just yesterday.
The uninstall KB3008925 workaround is effective for Windows 8.x systems, but not Windows 7.
I'm in a similar situation (clients not using the current version) and while I can't say for sure, I do know that many companies want to approve/validate software updates before they roll them out. The bigger a company is, the longer that process can take (perhaps more than a year).
From my own perspective, I've noticed functionality issues from one update to the next, specifically with the html5 output. While an update may fix an issue (or issues), the update might (and has) introduce issues of its own. It becomes a matter of which issue or issues can you live with (or for which you've found/discovered a workaround).
Hi Everyone! Well, I did a system restore to before the latest windows update. SL1 works fine now!! YES! BTW, be sure that your windows update settings are NOT set to automatic or you will just reinstall that update all over again. It works fine now! I will await the latest update for SL1.
Out of all the stuff suggested, that one is the only one that worked for me. Thanks. I can finish my project that is due tomorrow (after wasting 5.5 hours sitting here waiting on Articulate to fix it).
David, I am in the same situation. Thanks for elevating this.
Good news; the update to Storyline 1 with the Flash Player 16 fix is now live. Please download the latest version of Storyline 1 at your earliest convenience.
I see a fix for Storyline 2. How about us saps who have 1. When's that fix coming?
Hi Alan,
You were probably composing your message while Brian was posting his - but Storyline 1 Update 8 is now live and fixes the issue with Flash Player 16.
Any word on Studio '13?
Thank you!
Thank you Articulate for your attention to this!
Great that this is now fixed.
Studio '13 has been updated as well. The latest version is available here: https://www.articulate.com/products/studio-13-update.php

Hey Ashley,
This is great news about the new update! It seemed to work just fine, but alas, now I have another issue... it's telling me I've exceeded the number of activations for this license. : ( Is there a way to de-activate the license on my old computer so that I can use it on this shiny new computer I purchased for just this reason?
Hi Mike,
You can activate on up to two computers - so if you have access to an old computer to remove and deactivate you can do so here, otherwise please connect with our Support team.
Will selecting "Deactivate" under the "Help" tab on the old computer make the license available on my new computer? (Hoping so!)
