PDF filename changes when downloading from Rise
Hi there,
We have noticed that when downloading a pdf document (from the pdf multimedia block) the filename of the downloaded document is different than the filename of the document when it is in Rise. See attachment for screenshots. Is this supposed to happen? If so, what is the rationale in changing the filename? We would really appreciate it, if someone can shed some light on this for us. Thank in advance and have a wonderful day!
Hi everyone! We fixed the issue in Rise 360 where extra characters were added to attachment block file names. Please have a look, and let us know if you have any further trouble with your attachment blocks!
Hi Matthew and Jackie!
Sorry you're both having trouble with this too. 😕
Matthew, I don't have an update on when/if yet - but as soon as we do we'll post here in the ELH discussion so you'll get an email notification if you're subscribed.
Jackie, What error message are you getting? The one about an invalid embed code? Take a look at the troubleshooting steps here.

Hello, I'm looking for a solution here as well. We name uploaded multimedia files (PDFs) withn an alphanumeric naming policy to help learners build a library of take-away resources. The unique characters (e.g. JlQomjxZb7rOw3nc_GxfIiesleN1h7Qyz-booklet-1-job-options.pdf) is an issue as it makes it difficult for learners to organise the downloaded resources in the course. I have subscribed to this thread pending any updates.
Thanks,
Jason

I am having this problem too. All the files that were uploaded and subsequently downloaded had a different and long name with gibberish ahead.
Hi Cheng,
I just tried this out on my end and am not seeing the same issue.
The quickest way to resolve this issue is to have our Support Team take a look. You can submit a case here.
In the meantime, if there's anything else I can do to help, please let me know!
Hello again Cheng,
I looked into this further and it seems like it's an issue specific to Internet Explorer 11. It works fine in Firefox, Chrome, and Microsft Edge.
I'm logging a bug for this. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. :)
I'll let you know via this thread when any updates are available.

Hi, this is causing a problem for us, too. Wondering if a solution has been found.
Hi Mourad,
The best way to avoid this issue is by using a browser other than Internet Explorer. I'll let you know if we release a fix for IE via this thread.
In the meantime, if there's anything else I can do to help, please let me know!

OK. Thanks, Allison.
Sure thing!

Hi Allison,
We have just tested a course in Moodle and both Chrome and Firefox have the file name problem. I assume we must be doing something incorrectly if the problem is supposed to be limited to IE. Any idea?

Hello, also having an issue with this at the moment for a recent project when downloading via Chrome and IE, looking forward to a solution being found.
Thanks
I'm sorry you're having this issue. I'll be sure to share any updates with you via this thread.

We are also having this issue. We have files uploaded on Rise to share with trainers. They need to save them with the correct names because we reference the file names in their training manual. We're instructing them to change the names manually but would love to see this problem resolved. Following so I can receive updates.
Thanks for the feedback! I'll add your voice to this request.

Hi Allison do you have any updates on this issue?
Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out!
I don’t currently have any updates, but you are now subscribed to this conversation which means as we share updates here, you’ll automatically be notified.
Hi everyone!
Just wanted to let you know that we released a fix for this! :) Please note that you'll need to delete and reupload your attachment for it to work.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi. I'm still experiencing the same issue and only uploaded the file today. Do I need to do something in order to access the fix?
Hi there, Tracey. You shouldn't have to do anything extra. In the block, and when you download the attachment, you should still see the original file name. In the output files for web or LMS, you may see extra characters, but they are removed for your learner.
Let me know where you're seeing the extra characters, and I'll see how we can help!
