101 Refresh: How to Write Good E-Learning Quiz Questions

If you read my last article, you already know that I’m a big fan of slide masters. So it probably won’t come as a surprise that I also love feedback masters. But what you may not know is that feedback masters are actually slide layer masters in disguise. That’s right. In addition to allowing you to format the different feedback layers (Correct, Incorrect, Try Again, and Review), you can define your own slide layer layouts.

When you open the feedback master window in Storyline, you’ll see that the last layout in the feedback master is called Blank. This is the layout you can use for regular, non-feedback layers.

Regular Layer Layout

Feedback masters work exactly the same way as slide masters. You can add text, images, audio, videos,  placeholder content, etc. Any content or placeholder you put on the Blank layout will automatically appear on all the non-feedback layers in your project.

If you want, you can duplicate the Blank layout to create several different slide layer layouts. To make it easy to select the layout you want, rename them by right-clicking on the layout and selecting Rename Layout.

Rename Feedback Layout

The first layout you create will still be automatically applied to all your layers, but by right-clicking on the layer background while the layer is open you can apply a different layout.

Apply Feedback Layout

It’s as easy as that! So next time you’re creating a course with a bunch of layers with the same layout, remember to set up a feedback master for them to save yourself some time. You’ll be happy you did if you decide to make any changes later on in the project.
