Articulate Engage interaction examples

Articulate Engage interactions offer you a lot of flexibility when it comes to adding interactivity to your Articulate Studio courses. There are 20 interaction types available, so you have plenty of options for finding one that works well with your content type. In the past, I’ve shared many examples of Articulate Engage interactions (4 Awesome Engaging Examples of E-Learning and 4 Examples of Fabulous Interactions Created with Engage); today I thought I’d follow up with examples of three interaction types I haven’t shared before: Labeled Panel, Image Zoom, and Timeline.

Labeled Panel Interaction

The labeled panel interaction consists of an image overlaid with markers that users click to find out more information. Of course, you choose the image, where the markers are placed, and the text they display. You can also choose the color scheme and some other basics, like on which side to place the text and the photo.

Notice that in my interaction example I use a heading font, and I use red as an accent color to create a pop. I tie it all together by using red on both the header and the markers.

Something else you might notice is that I edited my image (you can do this in any graphics application, or even in PowerPoint) to add a white area on the bottom right-hand corner. Over the top of this area, I placed a different-colored marker for the introduction text. Placing it here and making it a different color is a way to make it stand out and let people know it’s not a tip. Additionally, one more detail is that I placed the numbers on the markers in order from left to right.

Image Zoom Interaction

The image zoom interaction allows you to insert an image and then zoom in on certain parts of it to display a close-up view alongside additional text information. In my example, I created a custom image in a graphics editing application where I overlaid three smaller images on top of a larger, blurred-out background image. I also placed some text on this image. I then inserted this image into my image zoom interaction, and added three zoom areas (one on top of each image).

This goes to show that with a bit of imagination (and some very basic graphic editing skills) you can do some really fun stuff with your interactions!

Timeline Interaction

The timeline is a classic interaction that people love to use. My basic tips are to coordinate your imagery, colors, and fonts to give your interaction a clean and streamlined look.

My timeline features a red, white, and blue color scheme because the subject matter is Presidents of the United States. If you click through the interaction, you’ll notice I used consistent imagery to keep things cohesive and professional-looking. It doesn’t take much to take your Engage interactions to the next level: a nice color scheme and good images!
